Artist Statement: The natural burl surface has been used in all types of applications for the design of a piece. It has always intrigued me in trying to figure out a new application. This was the inspiration for this series. Using the natural surfaces of the burl to form the top surface of the leaves, I then carved the leaf form back to match the burl surface. This created a leaf form that was more organic, and it saved the beauty of the burl.
