Artist Statement: From the Challenge VI - Roots exhibition catalog:
Cereus is a species of cactus. The idea was not to copy it exactly, but to give a stylized impression and still show that it is made from wood. I chose spalted hackberry so the strong spalting lines would show through the green color. The toothpicks were steamed and bent, then sanded to points and randomly placed on the vessel. 2000
